Let Hope Rise and Darkness Tremble.

This coming Spring 2016, my wife Brittany and I will be traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to volunteer with Make Your Mark. This will be my return visit and my wife's first.

August 2015, I went to Addis with the purpose of capturing the everyday of the non-profit Make Your Mark. By the end of my time there in August, I had already felt a strong pull to come back. After experiencing and seeing what is going on in Addis, it was very hard to just forget about it.

This is where we met the boys. We woke them up around 4 in the morning to spend time with them and take them to breakfast.

Something has to be done. Children the ages of 6 - 14 are homeless, on the streets, with no where to go. They sleep under bridges, in the mud and rocks of a median in the middle of a busy road, usually with a pack of stray dogs. The nighttime average temperatures are around 40-50 degrees.Their clothes are ripped apart, if they have shoes, they more than likely have holes. These 7 year olds, 9 year olds, 6 year olds are beat, urinated on, raped and sometimes taken out of the city to be left for dead by their own government who are trying to "clean up" the streets. To try to stay warm and to hide the hunger pains, most of the children huff industrial grade shoe glue to stay on a constant high. As you can imagine this causes huge health problems for these young children and starts the pattern of addiction.

One of the boys actually had this one him when they came to the day center. They keep up in their sleeve and huff it all day and night.

Most of you will read this, maybe shed a small tear, and then go about your business. Watch some sports, drink some beer, buy more clothes, take your children to their plenty of activities and go to sleep at night, in a warm bed. While in the majority of the world, children, are fighting for their lives.

Every one of us is called, we are called to be there for these children. I believe there are two types of people in the world. People who are called to the field and people who are called to give financially, so that the people who are called to the field can be at the front lines, showing these children on the streets the love of Christ.

Now that you know what they go through, you have two options. Ignore the situation, and go about your business OR do something about it. Go to the front lines or give financially to the people who are.

This is Sammy, he was the youngest we met on the streets, at age 7.

Brittany and I will need to raise about $4500 for us to go on this trip. This cost will include our airfare, accommodations, food, visas and shots. We have figured this would take 180 of you to donate $25.00, some of you may give more or less, but we believe that those who are called to give will give what we will need to make this trip happen.

We have set up a fundraising page where you can go and read more information about our trip and watch a video, please go check it out here.

Also, please go check out Make Your Mark's website. You can learn about everything they do there.

Thank you so much for reading and we sincerely appreciate your generosity!
